What would you consider to be the main purpose of a music video?
How might an artist extend their income through having a music video?
Again the music video can have so many purposes for it for example someones watches a music video they may like a specific dance move, so they will tell their friends to check it out and so on, this way they get more views, the more views the more money the artist makes. Also I know recently Rihanna launched a Lipstick through the makeup company "MAC" and she wore this lipstick in one of her videos, after 3 days of launch her lipstick was sold out because so many people saw her wearing it and wanted to buy it, not only because she was wearing it because its hers and many fans bought it because it was also signed "RiRi". Not only has she made a lipstick as you can see below shes made a few other beauty cosmetics.
Describe how ant why music videos have been used to fill in for bands on tour or when otherwise unavailable?
Thinking back through history and presently... how have music videos enabled an "extension of outlets" (opened up ways to get music to the masses?)
The music industry had grown massively throughout the years from the early 1940's where you used to have to go to concerts to see a band perform because they didn't have the technology to create and view music videos. Its amazing how everything had changed there's so many ways to get your music now it went from T.V's to computers to the internet and even on mobile phone devices now. Even technology in its self has improved such as we now have headphones we can use mp3 players, i pods, mobile phones, tablets, internet etc. There are hundreds of websites where you can download your music from the most popular would be you tube, YouTube is very popular not just for viewing videos but for listening to music and also downloading MP3/4. Theres also other websites such as spotify and I tunes. Due to all of these improved devices and quality this is how these celebrities make money. The more support and fans they get the more income for them. Back in the 1960's they didn't have any other ways to promote themselves like we do today they couldn't make perfumes and promote them because they didn't have enough fans or money to do that
